Inside Edge Baseball Academy held a drive-thru food drive to benefit Harvesters on Saturday, April 25, 2020. The event collected more than 1,300 individual food and non-food items as well as over $500 in cash donations.
“These results are gratifying because it shows how much our families care about the Lee’s Summit community,” Inside Edge founder Todd Clausen said. “We are honored to be able to assist people in need, and we believe it’s important to do all we can to help.”
The food drive was organized as a drive-thru event due to current COVID-19 distancing guidelines. Representatives from Inside Edge accepted donations directly from cars, providing a safe and convenient way for families to participate.
Harvesters is seeing families and seniors needing assistance in record numbers. On Monday, March 23, 2020, Harvesters reported the largest one-day request for help in its 40-year history. Harvesters distributes food through its network of more than 760 agencies in a 26-county region of northeast Kansas and northwest Missouri. Matt Carpenter, Inside Edge general manager and event coordinator, added, “I want to send a heartfelt ‘thank you’ to everybody that participated. I was so proud of our organization, so happy with what we’re able to give to families in need in Lee’s Summit. A great job IE.”
